Made in China 2025: Innovation and Sustainable Development

Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, International Business School Suzhou, and Ramon Llull University, IQS School of Management, will jointly host the 4th International Workshop on the Chinese Development Model on 4 July, 2025 in Suzhou, China. The Chinese Development Model stands as a testament to the remarkable transformation and rapid growth that China has experienced over the past few decades. This workshop will delve into the future trajectory of China’s economic evolution, exploring how it aims to strike a balance between innovation and sustainable development, the dynamic and evolving landscape of trade, and the impact of technological advancements and digital transformation. We will explore the societal and environmental dimensions of China’s development, and analyze China’s approaches to addressing global economic uncertainties and demographic shifts, offering a comprehensive perspective on both its achievements and ongoing challenges.

Main Topics of the Workshop (not limited):

The organizing committee welcomes both empirical and theoretical contributions regarding various aspects of the Chinese economy, society, history, culture, its role in international trade, health and sustainable development.

Keynote speaker:

Xuezhong (Tony) He, Professor of Finance, Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University; Co-Editor of the Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control (2013-2022); a Senior Editor, Department Editor, Associate Editor, and Guest Editor for several other journals; RePEc rank on research impact top 3% in Asia and China; Highly Cited Chinese Researcher of 2022-2023 by Elsevier for contributions to Applied Economics.

Paper Submission:

Please submit in the form of extended abstracts (max 2 pages) or full paper as a PDF file via the submission website (https://xjtlu.mike-x.com/HJswL). The first page of the submitted material must contain authors’ affiliations and, at least, three keywords. In the case of co-authored research, the submitter will be assumed to be the presenter, unless specified differently. One paper per person.

Notification of Acceptance decision:  30 May 2025

Registration deadline: 8 June 2025

Full paper submission deadline: 20 June 2025

Workshop Dates: 4 July 2025

Best Paper Awards:

To encourage excellent research, the workshop will offer one best paper award:

  • Best paper- Prize CNY3,000 (USD 440)

To be considered for the best paper awards, the submission should be in full paper.
