The annual CESifo Venice Summer Institute brings together international economists working on economic policy topics for workshops, panel meetings and discussion. The conference venue is Venice International University on San Servolo, a tiny island across the water from San Marco in the bay of Venice, that offers an ideal setting for an intensive exchange of ideas in a relaxed atmosphere.

Big Data in Urban Economics 
23 – 24 June 2025

The big data generated by omnipresent sensors, coupled with the computing power to process and make sense of it, have turned it into a powerful tool for economic geography and urban economics. This workshop will take stock of where research stands and where it is going, and the insights being gained.

Digital Healthcare
23 – 24 June 2025

This workshop will bring together researchers at the intersection of health care economics and other fields of economics (including labor, public finance, innovation & entrepreneurship, digitalization, and behavioral economics) to understand the greatest challenges and opportunities associated with digital healthcare.

This workshop explores the role of pivotal multi-firm groups in shaping global trade, taxation, and regulation. Bridging research in trade and public economics, it examines networks, specialization and policy responses within these complex corporate structures.

Poverty, Persistence and Policy: Comparative Development and the Deep Roots of Prosperity
25 – 26 June 2025

Why do some regions and countries achieve prosperity while others linger in poverty? While progress has been made in finding an answer, much remains to be done. Now, with the availability of new data sets and more advanced methodologies, research is becoming increasingly quantitative and interdisciplinary. This workshop will discuss where we stand in understanding the deep determinants of comparative development, sharing new insights gleaned at the research frontier.
