Medgar Evers College (MEC) was created as a result of the civil rights
movement and was named for the slain civil rights leader, Medgar Wiley Evers
(1925-1963), in 1970. Â MEC is one of 11 senior colleges within the City
University of New York (CUNY) and enrolls 7,200 students (approximately 1,300
in The School of Business) and is accredited by the Accreditation Council of
Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). Â The MEC campus sits adjacent to the
historic site where the legendary Jackie Robinson integrated major league
baseball, the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens, Prospect Park and the Brooklyn
Museum.
Brooklyn is currently in a renaissance, and with Brooklyn as our living
laboratory, the faculty is able to bridge the chasm between theory and
practice in real-time. Â Our vision for the School of Business is to be an
institution in which our students are endowed with the education, skills, and
resources that are necessary to lead this renaissance from both the public
and private sectors, as well as at the grass-roots level.Â
This specific history, vision, and goal, along with the other unique factors
that has made this institution a reality, have culminated into the School of
Business at Medgar Evers College’s mission.
The mission of the School of Business is to emphasize excellence in
undergraduate business education, in the context of the liberal arts, and to
prepare students: for administrative and managerial careers in both the
private and public sectors; as well as preparation for graduate and/or
professional studies; entrepreneurship; and leadership roles in their careers
and communities.
