The National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS) was founded in 1997 in Tokyo as a public Japanese university. GRIPS focuses mainly on policy oriented research and disciplines concerning development economics, as well as local governance and international affairs. IDEAS ranked GRIPS as the eleventh best economics research institution in Asia and the third best economics school in Japan.
