Tinbergen Institute (TI)

Tinbergen Institute (TI) is the graduate school and research institute operated jointly by the Schools of Economics and Econometrics of the Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR), University of Amsterdam (UvA) and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU). Founded in 1987, TI is today one of the major economic research institutes in the Netherlands, with more than 160 research fellows and over 200 students. Tinbergen Institute is named after Professor Jan Tinbergen, the Dutch Nobel Prize laureate in Economics (1969). TI has offices in both Amsterdam and Rotterdam.

Tinbergen Institute offers a research master program in economics, econometrics and finance, as well as Ph.D. opportunities to an international community of excellent students. TI ensures the high quality of the graduate program by selecting the best researchers and lecturers in economics, econometrics and finance of the three participating schools. In addition, internationally renowned experts are invited to serve as guest lecturers or to present the annual lectures series.

As part of its mission to stimulate research, Tinbergen Institute defines quality standards for researchers. Researchers of the three participating Schools of Economics who meet TI’s quality standards can become TI research fellows. TI has formed eight research fields, focused on specific areas in economics.
