"The economics, politics and philosophy of artificial intelligence and big data: institutions matter!"

The Witten Institute for Institutional Change (WIWA) invites submissions of papers and suggestions for organized sessions for its 5th International Conference on Institutional Change. The conference is sponsored by WINIR,  the World Interdisciplinary Network for Institutional Research.

The conference will take place on 14 & 15 March 2019 at Witten/Herdecke University,Germany.

Keynote speakers:

Jeroen van den Hoven, Delft University of Technology and editor in chief of Ethics and Information Technology

Matthijs Michiel Maas, University of Copenhagen and Research Affiliate in the Governance of AI Program at the University of Oxford’s Future of Humanity Institute (tbc)

Len Shackleton, University of Buckingham (tbc)

Artificial intelligence and the data will not only have a major impact on living conditions, labour, production and economic development. They also challenge political decision-makers to set up adequately designed institutions to prevent unwanted consequences of technological developments. Without such institutions human society is, as Henry Kissinger wrote in a recent article, as "philosophically, intellectually [...] unprepared for the rise of artificial intelligance."

Our focus is bringing together scholars interested in interdisciplinary work on the necessary institutional framwork for AI.

The 5th WIWAConference thus provides a platform for discussion about economic, political, psychological, and ethical challenges which are brought up by recent technological changes.

We invite papers from economics, politics, ethics, psychology, philosophy, and other relevant social sciences that deal – for example – with

regulation and governance issues of AI companies and applications,

labour market effects of AI and big data,

the impact of AI on growth,

ethical questions of using AI,

legal aspects,e.g. liability rules for AI applications,

international competition of AI regulations.

connected with artificial intelligence and big data.

Please send your suggestions for organized sessions to wiwacon@uni-wh.de.
