The Department of Economics at the University of Calcutta in India was
established in 1914. Bachelor's, master's, and doctoral students are enrolled
in courses regarding political economy, international and development
economics, political and urban economies, economic theory, macroeconomics,
and other related fields. Furthermore, the department has two advanced
research centers, the Center for Urban Economic Studies, and the Center of
Economics of Globalization and Sustainable Development, which are known
throughout India for their innovative achievements and
international research efforts. Â
