We are delighted to announce the inaugural workshop of our network Quantitative Analysis and Research Network for Care (QAR-Net Care), entitled “Bridging Care Gaps: Exploring Impact on Lives and Societies” organised by the University of Sheffield and the ESRC Centre for Care.
This workshop will bring together researchers from different countries and academic backgrounds to delve into the crucial research area of care inequalities and their impact on individuals and societies.
The workshop’s primary focus centres on investigations into the inequalities experienced by people who provide and receive care. Our aim is to increase understanding of the layered consequences of these intersectional inequalities and the opportunities they impact, including:
- Labour market outcomes
- Well-being
- Poverty
- Social mobility
- Inequality of opportunities
- Education
This event aims not only to facilitate the exchange of knowledge but also to foster an international network of scholars passionate about addressing care inequalities. For this reason, the workshop will culminate in a two-hour collaborative session, offering participants the invaluable opportunity to explore the potential for future collaborations and encourage discussions on joint publications, grant applications, and other collaborative ventures aimed at advancing research in this important field.
We invite high-quality papers aligned with the workshop’s thematic focus from researchers worldwide. The organisers would particularly welcome papers using quantitative methods and unconventional data sources. We are committed to welcoming scholars at all career stages so applications from Early Career Researchers are highly encouraged. Accommodation costs (for the night of the 2nd and 3rd of June) together with coffee breaks, lunch and conference dinner for those whose papers are accepted will be covered by the organisers. Participants will, however, need to cover their own travel costs.

To apply to the workshop, please complete the Google form, which includes submitting an abstract (up to 500 words) of completed, or close to completed, work. Further information can be found on the form. Authors whose papers are accepted will be asked to submit a final version of their paper prior to the workshop.
